Big Fight Preview: Kevin Mitchell Vs Felix Lora

Essex boy Kevin Mitchell gets a chance to redeem himself after his recent personal controversies when he faces Dominican Felix Lora tonight at the world-famous York Hall in Bethnal Green, London live on BoxNation.

The Lightweight contender went on a booze binge during 2011 after his loss to Australian Michael Katsidis and in August he was arrested for drug offences, convicted of drink driving and having an offensive weapon in his car. But for a sympathetic judge, he would have gone to jail. He ended up doing community service and was tagged for three months.

However, Mitchell is back in the ring, with his last fight in the summer against John Murray being voted Fight Of The Year, Mitchell is hoping for another polished performance.

” I’m buzzing to get going, I’m not concerned about going in to knock him out I know its going to be a tough fight but I am certain that I can get the job done.

He’s a tough looking kid, very strong but you never know how tough they really are until you’re around them and I imagine he’s going to be in it for the long haul and so am I.

I want to look smart, so I’m not going to let him get in any clever uppercuts or side steps, people know how strong I am, how powerful I am so I’m certain that I can win the fight.”

Mitchell was previously in line for a WBA World title shot against Brandon Rios at Madison Square Garden last year, after his comeback fight against Murray last year but instead Mitchell was painting fences in Romford as a penance.

It’s very difficult to dislike Kevin Mitchell and despite his misdeeds,  he has an outgoing personality and has been honest and open about his convictions. Even though he has financial interest in a Billericay wine bar, Mitchell insists that he hasn’t touched alcohol since Christmas.

However, Mitchell will essentially be drinking in the Last Chance Saloon if he does not take care of Felix Lora in style because he has stated that he will challenge Ricky Burns for the WBO Lightweight title in June.

Mitchell is the odds-on favourite to win tonight and hopefully he can show that he is truly back to his best and in the frame for a big fight in the near future
